HEUCHERA 'Cascade Dawn'

Image of Heuchera 'Cascade Dawn'

Terra Nova Nurseries, Inc.

Family

Saxifragaceae

Botanical Name

HEUCHERA 'Cascade Dawn'

Plant Common Name

Alumroot, Cascade Dawn Alumroot

General Description

This compact perennial is especially intricate and beautiful at close-range. ‘Cascade Dawn’ has elegant, slightly lobed leaves that are silvery gray flushed with mauve and marked with striking dark purple veins and hints of lavender. The leaves form tidy, dense, mounds that look great all season long. In spring, it produces large, airy panicles of small, white, bell-shaped flowers that are truly charming. These should be cut back once spent to keep the foliage looking neat and pretty.

Heuchera performs best in partial sun or the bright filtered shade of open, wooded landscapes. Excessive heat and sun can cause leaf burn so avoid direct afternoon sun, especially where summers are hot. Fertile, organic-rich soils with average moisture and good drainage are essential for good health. The leaves of alumroot should be cut back in spring to make way for a new flush of foliage.

This striking Heuchera is a stylish choice for container compositions, mixed borders or woodland gardens, and makes a fine edging plant or groundcover.
