Image of Heuchera 'Chatterbox'

Jesse Saylor

Family

Saxifragaceae

Botanical Name

HEUCHERA 'Chatterbox'

Plant Common Name

Chatterbox Coralbells, Coralbells

General Description

Both the flowers and leaves of this bold coralbells are pretty. Like fairy's wands, its tall, thin stems are studded with dangling, bell-shaped blossoms of bright rose-pink which bloom over a long period from late spring through late summer. Plant this old-fashioned, compact, green-leaved Heuchera where its charming blooms may be admired up close.

Heuchera performs best in partial sun or the bright filtered shade of open, wooded landscapes. Excessive heat and sun can cause leaf burn so avoid direct afternoon sun, especially where summers are hot. Fertile, organic-rich soils with average moisture and good drainage are essential for good health. The leaves of alumroot should be cut back in spring to make way for a new flush of foliage.

This versatile little gem may be used in perennial borders, woodland gardens, rock gardens or as a container subject. Bees and hummingbirds are drawn to its bright blooms, which also make pretty cutflowers.
