Terra Nova Nurseries, Inc.

Family

Saxifragaceae

Botanical Name

HEUCHERA 'Chocolate Ruffles' PP8965

Plant Common Name

Alumroot, Chocolate Ruffles Alumroot

General Description

The frilly, chocolate and burgundy leaves of Heuchera ‘Chocolate Ruffles’ provide nonstop, bold color throughout the growing season. The rich foliage of this dramatic perennial contrasts beautifully with brighter greens and yellows. In late spring to early summer, ‘Chocolate Ruffles’ produces small, creamy, bell-shaped flowers, which rise above the foliage on numerous thin stems for a truly charming display.

Heuchera performs best in partial sun or the bright filtered shade of open, wooded landscapes. Excessive heat and sun can cause leaf burn so avoid direct afternoon sun, especially where summers are hot. Fertile, organic-rich soils with average moisture and good drainage are essential for good health. The leaves of alumroot should be cut back in spring to make way for a new flush of foliage.

This striking Heuchera is a stylish choice for container compositions, mixed borders or woodland gardens, and makes a fine edging plant or groundcover.
