General Description
Heuchera is a diverse genus that comprises approximately 50 species and hundreds of hybrid cultivars. These hardy perennials are endemic to North America and most commonly grown for their attractive basal clumps of evergreen, semi-evergreen or herbaceous foliage that come in a variety of colors, including variegates. Some species, such as Heuchera sanguinea, have attractive flowers as well.
Most Heuchera grow best in part sun to part shade and prefer evenly moist and fertile well drained soil, but there are several sun-loving, drought tolerant species as well. Overall, these perennials are best enjoyed in perennial borders and woodland gardens.
