HIBISCUS syriacus 'Freedom'
Freedom Rose-of-Sharon, Rose-of-Sharon
The pretty rose-of-Sharon, 'Freedom' is vigorous and summer-blooming. It is distinguished by its semi-double to double dusky coral-red flowers that continue blooming for months. Its large, rich green leaves are lobed and turn a dirty yellow in fall. It has an upright, bushy habit and a tendency to sucker and self sow.
Rose-of-Sharon grows best in full to partial sun and fertile loam with even moisture and good drainage. It is easy to grow and well-suited as an informal hedge or screen. ‘Freedom’ makes a nice addition to mixed shrub borders or may be planted as landscape specimen. Like all rose-of-Sharon, it can easily be shaped and restrained with yearly pruning.
