HOSTA 'Abiqua Blue Crinkles'
Abiqua Blue Crinkles Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Hostas are mound-forming herbaceous perennials grown mostly for their attractive foliage. The blue-leaved ‘Abiqua Blue Crinkles’ is a large hosta. Its big leaves are oval, heavy, thick, cupped and corrugated like cardboard. The color is a deep, dark blue-green. White tubular flowers appear on leafless stems held above the foliage in late summer.
Overall, this hosta grows best in full to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of fertile well-drained soils. Hostas have average water needs, but prefer even moisture. In hot and dry conditions they can develop dry leaf edges and tips. Pests are also a problem. Slugs and snails favor hosta leaves and riddle them with holes, and deer will feast on them if given the chance. Like other hostas, 'Abiqua Blue Crinkles' is best used in shaded perennial gardens or massed as an herbaceous groundcover.
