HOSTA 'All Gold'
All Gold Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Hostas are mound-forming herbaceous perennials grown mostly for their attractive foliage. This one, ‘All Gold,’ is true to its name when planted in the right degree of shade. It is medium-sized and forms an upright clump of ovate, pointed leaves that are chartreuse verging on gold. In full sun the leaves bleach to white and look ghastly, while in full shade they lose their glow and darken to green. In partial sun to partial shade, especially with a bit of morning sun, they develop their brightest shade of gold. The flowers are lavender and appear in cluster on leafless stems above the leaves in late summer.
Like most hostas ‘All Gold’ tolerates almost any well-drained soil and prefers average, even moisture. Use it for contrast of color and silhouette to brighten shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or massed as a groundcover under trees with high canopies. Under trees, where the ground dries quickly, water as needed.
