Antioch Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Variegated and pretty, 'Antioch' is a large hosta that forms dense, cascading mounds. Its large, long leaves are lance-shaped and tapering. They have a green center and wide, irregular, yellow margins which turn white with age. It has lavender flowers that are funnel to bell-shaped and appear on tall stems held above the foliage in midsummer.
This hosta grows best in full to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of fertile well-drained soil types. It has average water needs, and prefers even moisture. In hot and dry conditions the leaves can develop dry edges and tips. Like many hostas, ‘Anne’ is useful for contrast of colors and texture in the shaded perennial garden or several plants can be massed as an herbaceous groundcover.
