HOSTA 'Canadian Blue'
Canadian Blue Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Hostas are mound-forming herbaceous perennials grown mostly for their attractive leaves, mounding habit, and tolerance of shade. This one, ‘Canadian Blue,’ is medium-sized with leaves that grow upright or lean. They are a pleasing frosty blue-green, oval to lance-shaped, deeply veined and of heavy substance that seems to deter slugs and snails. Fragrant, lavender, bell-shaped flowers appear on leafless stems held above the foliage in midsummer.
This hosta grows best in full to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of fertile well-drained soils. It has average water needs and prefers even moisture. Use ‘Canadian Blue’ for contrasts of color and texture in shaded perennial gardens or planted en masse as an herbaceous groundcover.
