HOSTA 'Chantilly Lace'
Chantilly Lace Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their attractive leaves, mounding habit, toughness, and tolerance for shade. This one, the pretty variegated ‘Chantilly Lace,’ is a diminutive hosta that forms a neat mound. The leaves are small and lance-shaped with twisted, pointed tips. They are gray-green with narrow white margins. Copious amounts of large, white, bell-shaped flowers appear on leafless stems held above the foliage in midsummer.
Like most hostas, ‘Chantilly Lace’ grows best in full to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of fertile well-drained soils. It has average water needs and prefers even moisture. In hot and dry conditions the tips and margins of the leaves can dry and wither. Use ‘Chantilly Lace’ for contrasts of texture and color to brighten shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or planted en mass as an herbaceous groundcover in shady spots.
