Climax Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their attractive leaves, mounding habit, toughness, and tolerance for shade. This one, the pretty variegated ‘Climax,’ forms a large, vase-shaped, upright mound. The leaves are oval, with pointed tips, and green with wide, irregularly shaped yellow margins. They are also flat, of heavy substance, and corrugated. Pale, lavender tubular to bell-shaped flowers appear on leafless stems held above the foliage in late spring to early summer.
Like most hostas, ‘Climax’ grows best in full to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of fertile well-drained soils. It has average water needs and prefers even moisture. Use ‘Climax’ for contrasts of texture and color to brighten shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or planted en masse as an herbaceous groundcover.
