HOSTA 'Crown Jewel'
Crown Jewel Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Hostas need shade, right? Not always. The chartreuse-leaved ‘Crown Jewel,’ like other hostas with yellow leaves, needs some to develop it brightest color. Herbaceous perennials, hostas are grown for their attractive leaves, mounding habit, toughness and tolerance for shade. The white-edged chartreuse leaves of 'Crown Jewel' are heart-shaped and deeply cupped. The edges are undulating and the tips twist. Lavender bell-shaped flowers appear on leafless stems held above the foliage in mid summer. The plant is small and neatly mounding.
Like most hostas, ‘Crown Jewel’ grows best in full to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils. It needs at least some morning sun to maintain good color. It has average water needs and prefers even moisture.Use ‘Crown Jewel’ for contrasts of color and texture in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands or planted en masse as an herbaceous groundcover.
