Floradora Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their leaves, mounding habit, toughness and tolerance of shade. This one, the modest, diminutive,fast-growing ‘Floradora,’ is a small hosta that forms spreading clumps. The leaves are triangular to heart-shaped, are slightly ribbed and medium green. Tiny, lavender, bell-shaped flowers appear in abundance atop leafless stems held above the foliage in late summer into fall.
Like most hostas, ‘Floradora’ grows best in full to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils. It prefers average water and even moisture. In hot, dry conditions the edges of the leaves may wither. Slugs and snails favor the leaves and may riddle them with holes. Use ‘Floradora’ shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, massed as an herbaceous groundcover.
