HOSTA 'Fortunei Albopicta'
Fortunei Albopicta Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
This hosta, 'Fortunei Albopicta,' has been well regarded and widely grown for over 100 years, largely because of its handsome leaves, large size, and toughness. Like all hostas, it is an herbaceous perennial that forms a mound of leaves on petioles (leaf stems) that rise directly from the ground. The leaves of ‘Fortunei Albopicta’ emerge a fairly bright cream color with green margins and by summer the entire leaf has turned green. The tubular white flowers appear in clusters atop leafless stems that rise above the leaves.
Like most hostas, ‘Fortunei Albopicta’ grows best in full to partial shade, tolerates almost all well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. Use it for dramatic contrast of size, color and texture in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or massed under large trees to complement their scale.
