HOSTA 'Fortunei Obscura'
Fortunei Obscura Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their attractive leaves, tolerance for shade, toughness, and mounding habit. This one, 'Fortunei Obscura,' is notable for its elegant leaves, reliability, and, surprisingly, tolerance for sun. It is a large plant and makes a mounded clump of leaves that are heart-shaped, smooth, prominently ribbed, green above and glaucous (covered with a whitish film) below. The flower are lavender and funnel shaped. They appear above the leaves in clusters atop leafless stems.
Like most hostas, ‘Fortunei Obscura,' grows best in partial shade to full shade, tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. Unlike most hostas, it also tolerates full sun. Use it for bold contrasts of size, texture, and color in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or massed as a groundcover under tall trees to complement their size.
