Botanical Name

General Description

Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their attractive leaves, tolerance for shade, toughness, and mounding habit. This one, 'Fortunei Rugosa,' is notable for its huge, tapering leaves and reliability. It is a large plant and makes an open clump of leaves that are prominently ribbed and sea green early in the growing season and afterward turning dark green , The flower are lavender and funnel shaped. They appear above the leaves in clusters atop leafless stems.

Like most hostas, ‘Fortunei Rugosa,' grows best in partial shade to full shade, tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. Use it for bold contrasts of size and texture in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or massed as a groundcover under tall trees to complement their size.
