HOSTA 'Fringe Benefit'
Fringe Benefit Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their leaves, habit, toughness and tolerance of shade. This one, the large, fast-growing ‘Fringe Benefit,’ forms dense, spreading clumps of puckered leaves that vary from heart-shaped to lance shaped. They are dark green with a narrow, irregular pale-green to creamy-white margin. Lavender, fertile, funnel to bell-shaped flowers bloom above the foliage held atop leafless stems in midsummer.
Like most hostas, ‘Fringe Benefit’ grows best in full to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils. It prefers average water and even moisture. Use ‘Fringe Benefit’ for contrasts of color, bold texture and habit in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or massed under large trees.
