HOSTA 'Gold Edger'
Gold Edger Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
To show off its glowing leaves, this tiny hosta, ‘Gold Edger,’ needs a bit of sun. An herbaceous perennial, it is prized for its green-gold leaves gathered in a charming, slightly wayward clump. The leaves are heart-shaped, tapered, and substantial in texture. The flowers are white, bell to funnel-shaped, and appear on leafless stems held above the foliage in midsummer.
Like most hostas, ‘Gold Edger’ grows best in partial shade and tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils. It needs at least some morning sun to maintain good leaf color. It prefers average, even moisture. In hot, dry conditions the edges and tips of the leaves may wither. Use ‘Gold Edger’ for a contrast of size and color in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, as edging for a shade garden, or planted en masse as a groundcover.
