HOSTA 'Ground Master'
Ground Master Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily
Hostas are shade-loving herbaceous perennials grown for their mounding habit, toughness, and attractive leaves. This one, ‘Ground Master,’ is a small hosta that spreads by stolons (lateral stems) to form a colony of leafy mounds. The leaves are lance-shaped, wavy-edged, and deep-green edged irregularly with white. Lavender funnel-to-bell-shaped flowers appear on leafy stems held above the foliage in late summer.
Like most hostas, ‘Ground Master’ grows best in full to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of fertile well-drained soils. It prefers average, even moisture. In hot, dry conditions the edges of the leaves may wither. A site with no direct mid-day sun can help. Use ‘Ground Master’ for its outlined leaves and contrasts of habit and size, or as an edger in shaded perennial gardens, or massed as a groundcover.
