Family

Liliaceae

Botanical Name

HOSTA 'Heartleaf'

Plant Common Name

Heartleaf Plantain Lily, Hosta, Plantain Lily

General Description

Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their leaves, tolerance for shade, toughness, and mounding habit. This one, ‘Heartleaf’ is notable for its uniform, pointed, heart-shaped leaves. They are heavily veined and puckered, and light green. This hosta is medium-sized and forms dense mounds. It produce many large, lavender, funnel-to-bell shaped flowers atop leafless stems above the clump in summer.

Like most hostas, ‘Heartleaf’ hosta grows best in full to partial shade, tolerates a wide range of fertile well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. Use it for contrasts of habit, texture and color to brighten shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or massed as a groundcover.
