Hosta 'Maraschino Cherry'
Hosta, Maraschino Cherry Plantain Lily, Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their leaves, toughness, mounding habit and tolerance of shade. To that, add colorful flower stems for ‘Maraschino Cherry.’ It is a medium-sized hosta and makes a neat clump of elliptical, waxy, glossy leaves that taper to a point. They are medium green and ribbed. In late summer, red-purple flower stalks rise above the plant, bearing clusters of lavender, tubular flowers.
Like most hostas, ‘Maraschino Cherry’ grows best in full to partial shade, tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. Use ‘Maraschino Cherry’ for contrasts of texture, color and silhouette in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or massed as a groundcover.
