Helping You Become a More Successful Gardener
Hosta, Plantain Lily, Rohdeifolia Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their attractive leaves, tolerance for shade, toughness, and mounding habit. This one, ‘Rohdeifolia' is small but perky, and notable for its upright, narrow olive-green leaves, outlined by thin white margins. The leaves, which are slightly shiny and veined in parallel lines, have short petioles (leaf stems) and so seem to be almost planted in the ground, with the result that the clump looks like a a fountain. The flowers are striped purple and appear on upright stems above the clump in late summer. This hosta is slightly stoloniferous (making spreading stems) and one plant soon gives rise to more nearby.
Like most hostas, ‘Rohdeifolia’ grows best in partial shade to full shade, tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. Use it for contrasts of size and silhouette in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or massed as a tufty groundcover.
