General Description

This clump-forming, shade-tolerant, herbaceous perennial originates from eastern Asia. It is primarily grown for its highly ornamental gray-green leaves that are heart-shaped, cupped and have a corregated texture and waxy bloom. In early summer, it produces an unusually upright, sturdy stems of pale lavender to white bell-shaped flowers.

This hosta prefers part sun to part shade and fertile, well drained soil. It is widely used in mixed perennial borders or planted in masses as a groundcover for shade. Most plantain lilies are highly susceptible to slug damage.
