General Description

Siebold's hosta, or plantain lily, is a small clump forming, shade tolerant, herbaceous perennial that originates from Japan. It is primarily grown for its ornamental olive green foliage that is lance-shaped. In late summer, it produces an unusually upright, sturdy stems of violet-purple, funnel-shaped flowers. This hosta prefers part sun to part shade and fertile, well drained soil. It is widely used in mixed perennial borders or planted in masses as a groundcover for shade.
