Hosta, Plantain Lily, Stiletto Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their attractive leaves, tolerance for shade, toughness, and mounding habit. This one, ‘Stiletto,' has narrow, undulating leaves that are tapered at both ends and dark to mid-green with thin white margins. It is stoloniferous (spreading by horizontal stems), so one plant soon makes a clump of many, with leaves jostling in all directions. The flowers are purple and borne on leafless stems above the leaves in summer.
Like most hostas, ‘Stiletto’ grows best in partial shade to full shade, tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. Use it for contrasts of texture, size and color in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, as an edger for shaded beds and borders, or massed as a groundcover.
