HOSTA 'Sweet Susan'
Hosta, Plantain Lily, Sweet Susan Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their attractive leaves, tolerance for shade, toughness, and mounding habit. This one, ‘Sweet Susan,' grows as a dense, mounded clump of medium green, heart-shaped leaves. It is a robust medium-to-large hosta and blooms with a profusion of fragrant, funnel-shaped lavender flowers borne in clusters on stems that rise above the leaves. The plant often reblooms after the first flush of flowers.
Like most hostas, ‘Sweet Susan’ grows best in partial shade to full shade, tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. Unlike most hosta, it also tolerates a good bit of sun. Use it for contrasts of silhouette and texture in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or massed as a groundcover.
