Hosta, Plantain Lily, Torchlight Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their attractive leaves, tolerance for shade, toughness, and mounding habit. This one, ‘Torchlight,' make a notably upright clump of leaves on tall petioles (leaf stems), almost a rhubarb-like growth habit. The leaves are twisted, upright, and dark green with creamy white margins. As a kind of bonus, the petioles are tinted a reddish burgundy. The flowers are lavender and borne in clusters on stems that rise above the leaves in late summer.
Like most hostas, ‘Torchlight’ grows best in partial shade to full shade, tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. Use it for contrasts of silhouette, texture, and color shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or as an accent plant.
