HOSTA 'True Blue'
Hosta, Plantain Lily, True Blue Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their attractive leaves, tolerance for shade, toughness, and mounding habit. This one, ‘True Blue,' has outstanding size and color. It makes a spreading mound of huge, oval to heart-shaped, puckered, blue-green leaves that hold their color even in partial sun. The leaves have heavy substance and some resistance to slugs. The flowers are white and borne in clusters on stems that rise above the leaves in mid-summer. If the flower stalks are removed promptly when the flowers wither, the plant may bloom again.
Like most hostas, ‘True Blue’ grows best in partial shade to full shade, tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. Use it for contrasts of size and color in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, as a specimen plant, or massed as a groundcover under large trees to complement their scale.
