HOSTA 'White Christmas'
Hosta, Plantain Lily, White Christmas Plantain Lily
Hostas are herbaceous perennials grown for their attractive leaves, tolerance for shade, toughness, and mounding habit. This one, 'White Christmas,' is prized for its eye-catching leaves, which are almost entirely white. Narrow and wavy, they have a creamy-white to pure-white center and thin, irregular, dark green margins. The plant makes a medium-sized spreading mound, striking for the way streaks of white and green point in all directions. The flowers are pale lavender and borne in clusters on stalks that rise above the leaves in mid-summer.
Like most hostas, ‘White Christmas’ grows best in partial shade to full shade, tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils, and prefers average, even moisture. However, to retain its white center, it should be planted where it will get morning sun. Use it for a bright contrast in shaded perennial gardens and woodlands, or massed as a busy, streaky groundcover.
