IBERIS saxatilis

Image of Iberis saxatilis

Family

Brassicaceae

Botanical Name

IBERIS saxatilis

Plant Common Name

Perennial Candytuft

General Description

A beautiful plant in all seasons with its dark green, narrow, evergreen leaves, this compact, floriferous cultivar of candytuft stays low and spreads slowly to form a wide cushion. In spring, 'Snowflake' blankets itself with clusters of fragrant, dazzling white flowers which are suitable for cutting.

Native to the Mediterranean climes of southern Europe, candytuft likes ample sun and well drained soil. After flowering, shear it back by 1/3 to keep its neat appearance. Useful for edging or as a ground cover, it also thrives in the rock or wall garden.
