Family

Rubiaceae

Botanical Name

IXORA 'Petite Pink'

Plant Common Name

Ixora

General Description

Long-blooming and slow growing, 'Petite Pink' is the perfect evergreen shrub for gardens or greenhouses where space is at a premium. The medium to small, rosy pink flowers are grouped in large rounded or flat-topped clusters that bloom from the outside in. Each long, tubular bloom flares at the mouth to display four or five petals. The small, pointed, leathery leaves are densely borne on compact stems. The foliage may go yellow in late winter and early spring.

This cold-tender shrub prefers sun or partial shade and requires humus-rich, well drained, acidic soil. It becomes nutrient-starved and sickly where soil pH is high. Chelated nutritional sprays applied regularly can help overcome deficiencies. Irrigate regularly when in growth. Position this shrub where it will receive protection from hot midday sun. Petite ixoras are slow growing, but will eventually reach moderate size. They are easily pruned to control size, but look their best if kept only lightly pruned. They are beautiful planted in mass and make great bonsai specimens.
