Botanical Name

JASMINUM x stephanense

Plant Common Name

Stephan Jasmine

General Description

This unique jasmine hails from southwestern China, and is believed to be a naturally occurring hybrid between the Chinese species J. beesianum and J. officinale, which is native to portions of western Asia, the Middle East, and southeastern Europe. A woody, semi-evergreen to deciduous vine, it is covered with many small, pink, tubular flowers from late spring through midsummer. The dainty blossoms are very fragrant and may attract hummingbirds. Its long stems bear medium green, pointed, oval-shaped foliage which may be irregularly edged and splashed with subtle cream markings.

Grow this lovely jasmine in full to part sun and reasonably moist, fertile, well-drained soil. It is somewhat tolerant of dry conditions, but best growth occurs with regular water. Casual and carefree in appearance, it will scramble readily over fences, trellises or other supportive structures. Be sure to plant it where its sweet fragrance can be fully appreciated.
