Yoder Brothers

Family

Juncaceae

Botanical Name

JUNCUS effusus 'Big Twister'

Plant Common Name

Big Twister Common Rush, Common Rush

General Description

Big Twister corkscrew rush is a grass-like perennial that is partial to temperate climates and native to Europe, Asia and Africa. This plant's unique spiraled stems twist and curl themselves into an interesting tangled mass. Similar to the Spiralis form, it is grown for its interesting form but has a more upright habit.

Big twister common rush grows well in moist, acidic soil in sun or partial shade and tolerates being completely submerged in water. Its unique shape and "wet feet" tolerance makes it an excellent accent plant for containers and water gardens. 'Big Twister' can be cut back in winter and allowed to rejuvenate in spring with fresh attractive growth.
