Juniper ‘Casino Gold’ forms an upright, spreading fountain of vivid, golden-green foliage, which shines like a ray of sunlight amid the dull shades of the winter garden. Its bright, evergreen color makes this shrub a powerful design tool for enlivening the landscape year-round. ‘Casino Gold’ is derived from Chinese juniper (Juniperus chinensis), a highly variable species found throughout most of China, whose diversity of form has led to the creation of numerous cultivars of different shapes, sizes and color variations.
Junipers are low-maintenance shrubs which prefer full to part sun and are not picky about soil fertility. Good drainage is essential, as they cannot tolerate saturated ground. To preserve its foliage beauty, protect ‘Casino Gold’ from direct afternoon sun and cold winter winds. This striking juniper may be allowed to grow naturally as a single border specimen, sheared to a more semiformal shape, or used as an evergreen screen or hedge plant.
