JUNIPERUS chinensis 'Keteleeri'

Jesse Saylor

Family

Cupressaceae

Botanical Name

JUNIPERUS chinensis 'Keteleeri'

Plant Common Name

Chinese Juniper

General Description

The narrow, upright size and beautiful, conical form of Juniperus chinensis ‘Keteleeri’ make it one of the best substitutes for Italian cypress (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana) in colder regions. Its thick, scaled foliage is dark, gray-green in color, and looks lovely when combined with the cool grays and purples found in Mediterranean-style gardens. ‘Keteleeri’ is also noted for its generous display of small, attractive, bluish fruits which appear in fall and winter and are highly attractive to many birds.

A lover of sun and heat, juniper ‘Keteleeri’ thrives in almost any type of soil long as long as it is well- drained. It makes an exceptional single specimen, or may be planted in small groups for a stronger architectural statement. This fine juniper is also ideal for use as a hedge or as a backdrop for more colorful foreground compositions.
