General Description

Initially looking like a fluffy, green column but maturing to slightly pyramidal in habit, 'Hibernica' produce dense foliage with fine texture. It's a selection of common juniper, a native to a wide variety of habitats across the Northern Hemisphere. This cultivar may be referred to as Irish juniper as well. The fine-textured, scaled needles range in color from dull blue-green to deep seafoam green. Grow the Irish juniper in lots of sun in any well-drained soil with fertility. It's tolerant of drought and rather rocky, gritty soils. Its narrow habit and non-prickly, colorful foliage make 'Hibernica' worthwhile in a mixed border or a drought-tolerant formal garden as a hedge or pillar-like vertical accent.
