JUNIPERUS scopulorum 'Welchii'
Rocky Mountain Juniper, Welchii Rocky Mountain Juniper
This older cultivar of Rocky Mountain juniper forms a tall, narrow pyramid of feathery, gray-blue foliage which becomes more intensely-colored with age. Retaining the strength and resilience of its parent, ‘Welchii’ is well-adapted to dry, cold climates and poor, rocky soils. It maintains its symmetrical form with little or no pruning, adding a carefree yet dramatic touch to the landscape.
Growing best in full sun, Rocky Mountain junipers are adaptable to a range of soils, provided they are well-drained. The statuesque form of ‘Welchii’ makes it a fine choice for privacy screens and windbreaks. It is also terrific for adding structure, vertical interest and year-round beauty to waterwise landscapes and gardens.
