Family
Caprifoliaceae
Botanical Name
Kolkwitzia amabilis 'Maradco'(DREAM CATCHER™)
Plant Common Name
Beautybush, Dream Catcher™ Beautybush
General Description
Most beautybushes earn their name in late spring, when their branches are laden with pink flowers. In contrast, Dream Catcher™ provides spring to fall beauty with its bright-hued leaves.
The golden, bronze-kissed, oval leaves are paired along the arching branches of this twiggy shrub. The leaves turn orange in fall. The bell-shaped flowers are pale-pink with a yellow throat. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds visit the blooms. The small fruits that follow are pinkish brown and fuzzy.
Grow beautybush in partial shade for best foliage color. Any reasonably fertile, well-drained soil will suffice. Flowers develop on year-old wood so prune plants immediately after they bloom, leaving strong new shoots for next year's display. Use Dream Catcher™ in the background of the mixed border or to accent a grouping of darker leaved plants.
