Botanical Name

LAGERSTROEMIA 'Chickasaw'

Plant Common Name

Chickasaw Crapemyrtle, Dwarf Crapemyrtle

General Description

Chickasaw crapemyrtle is a hybrid deciduous shrub of compact form with with pale lavender-pink blossoms from midsummer to frost. This cultivar has other attractions. The flowerbuds are red before opening and the dark green leaves turn a vivid orange-red in fall.

Like other crapemyrtles, ‘Chickasaw’ should be planted in a well- drained acidic to neutral soil. Full sun is mandatory for best flowering and overall plant fullness and form. This shrub is quite drought tolerant once established. Arguably one of the best shrubs for the ornamental landscape, 'Chickasaw' looks magnificent as a mass planting around foundations, and makes an effective and low maintenance container specimen. It also adds structure and interest to the mixed shrub or perennial borders as well as the rock garden.
