LAGERSTROEMIA indica 'Low Flame'

Image of Lagerstroemia indica 'Low Flame'

Family

Lythraceae

Botanical Name

LAGERSTROEMIA indica 'Low Flame'

Plant Common Name

Crapemyrtle, Low Flame Crapemyrtle

General Description

The semi-dwarf 'Low Flame,' descended from a crapemyrtle native to China and Korea, is a rounded, deciduous shrub with green leaves from spring to fall and showy red flowers in large clusters on the branch tips. Bloom starts as early as the last weeks of spring and continues until frost. In fall, the leaves turn shades of yellow, orange and red.

Like other crapemrytles, ‘Low Flame’ tolerates heat and drought, and can be planted in practically any well-drained soil that is not highly alkaline. Adequate moisture, especially as plants begin to flower, will ensure the best growth and bloom. Plant 'Low Flame' as a focal shrub along a foundation or in a mixed border, or as an informal hedge or screen.
