Lythraceae
Botanical Name
LAGERSTROEMIA indica 'Moners'( PETITE™ EMBERS, PETITE™ SERIES)
Plant Common Name
Dwarf Crapemyrtle
General Description
The Petite Series is a collection of dwarf crapemyrtles, all maturing at about chest height. This one, Petite Embers ('Moners'), produces showy clusters of candy red flowers on branch tips. It is a heat-loving deciduous shrub that flowers in mid to late summer, often lingering into autumn. Fall foliage on 'Moners' is orange.
Like most crapemyrtles, it tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils and grows best in hot sunny locations. Powdery mildew (a leaf disease)may be a problem and can be diminished with good air flow around shrubs so give the plant room. Petite Embers is a low maintenance addition to the mixed border or foundation planting, providing flower color in summer when many plants have the blah's.
