Lythraceae
Botanical Name
LAGERSTROEMIA indica 'Monkie'( PETITE™ PINKIE, PETITE™ SERIES)
Plant Common Name
Dwarf Crapemyrtle
General Description
The Petite Series is a collection of dwarf crapemyrtles, all maturing at about chest height. Petite Pinkie (also known as 'Monkie') produces pleasing clusters of medium pink flowers on branch tips. It is a heat-loving deciduous shrub that flowers in mid to late summer, often repeating into autumn if spent clusters are pruned promptly.
Crapemyrtle tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils and grows best in hot sunny locations. Foliar powdery mildew may be a problem and can be diminished with good air flow, easily provided by giving the plants room. Petite Pinkie is a low maintenance shrub suitable for a mixed border or foundation planting, providing bloom through the summer doldrums when other plants languish.
