Family

Lythraceae

Botanical Name

LAGERSTROEMIA indica 'Muskogee'

Plant Common Name

Crapemyrtle, Muskogee Crapemyrtle

General Description

Muskogee crapemyrtle is a heat-loving, multi-stemmed large shrub or small tree with hybrid origins. Its leaves are dark to medium green and turn shades of red in the fall. In summer it bears large, loose clusters of crinkled, lilac-pink flowers at its branch tips. Mature plants have a fountain-shaped habit and attractive exfoliating bark.

Crapemyrtle is tolerant of a wide range of well drained soils and grows best in hot sunny locations. Monitor for aphid infestations, but in general this cultivar has good powdery mildew resistance. Plant 'Muskogee' in larger foundation beds, as a small street or yard tree or in mixed borders.
