Family

Lythraceae

Botanical Name

LAGERSTROEMIA indica 'Whit II'(DYNAMITE™) PP10296

Plant Common Name

Crapemyrtle, Dynamite™ Crapemyrtle

General Description

Dynamite™ crapemyrtle is a heat-loving, large shrub or small tree with an attractive upright to fountain-shaped habit. This eastern Asian native has glossy dark green leaves that are reddish when they first emerge and turn shades of orange-red in the fall. In summer it bears many large clusters of crinkly, bright cherry red flowers at its branch tips. Mature plants have pretty exfoliating bark.

Crapemyrtle is tolerant of a wide range of well-drained soils and grows best in hot sunny locations. Foliar powdery mildew is often a problem in this species, but Dynamite™ is highly resistant. Grow this terrific selection as an accent or small shade tree in a large foundation bed at the building corner, at the street side or in mixed borders.
