Botanical Name
LAGERSTROEMIA indica 'Whit V'(TIGHTWAD RED®) PP11312
Plant Common Name
Crapemyrtle
General Description
Tightwad Red™ crapemyrtle is a heat-loving, small mounding shrub. It has small leaves that are red-hued when they first emerge, quickly fade to a light green and deepen to dark green by late spring. Its new branches are also red in color. From midsummer to frost, this compact crapemyrtle bears many clusters of sterile, crinkled, pale red flowers at its branch tips. Occasionally some of the flower petals may be lighter because cool, overcast summers yield duller bloom colors.
Crapemyrtle is tolerant of a wide range of well-drained soils and grows best in hot sunny locations. Tightwad Red™ is highly resistant to powdery mildew. Grow this exceptional dwarf cultivar as a short hedge or plant in masses along a foundation. It can also be incorporated into mixed perennial or shrub borders with ease and provides flower color when many other plants are no longer in bloom.
