General Description
Burgundy Cotton™ crapemyrtle ('Whit VI') is a heat-loving, large shrub with an attractive upright, vase-shaped canopy. It has glossy dark green leaves that are red-hued when they first emerge and age to dark green, though they may retain a burgundy color on their undersides in full sun exposures. In summer it bears many large clusters of crinkly, white flowers that are burgundy-red at the base. The pollen carrying stamens are a bright yellow. Mature plants have pretty exfoliating bark.
Crapemyrtle is tolerant of a wide range of well-drained soils and grows best in hot sunny locations. Burgundy Cotton™ is quite tolerant to cold and if damage occurs quickly rejuvenates from root stock and still flowers by midsummer. Grow this terrific cultivar as a tall hedge, in mixed borders or as a large foundation specimen.
