Botanical Name
LAGERSTROEMIA indica 'Whit Vii'(SIREN RED®) PP14975
Plant Common Name
Crapemyrtle
General Description
This crapemyrtle, Siren Red™, is a heat-loving, large deciduous shrub with a long blooming season. Descended from a native of eastern Asia, it has glossy, leathery, medium-green leaves that are red when they emerge in spring and turn red and orange in autumn. Starting in summer, Siren Red™ (also known as 'Whit Vii), blooms in clusters on branch tips and continues into autumn until frost. Prune spent clusters to encourage new flushes of bloom. The buds and the flowers are a rich blood-red. Mature plants have pretty exfoliating bark.
Like most crapemyrtles, Siren Red™ tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils and grows best in hot, sunny locations. Watering helps keep the leaves green through summer and prolongs flowering. Grow Siren Red™ as a hedge or screen, at corners in a foundation planting, or in large, mixed beds and borders.
