LILIUM 'Indian Diamond'( L.A. Hybrid)
Indian Diamond Longiflorum-Asiatic Lily, Longiflorum-Asiatic Lily
This entry has yet to be reviewed and approved by L2G editors.
The heavy flowering LA Hybrid lily ‘Indian Diamond’ has big upward-facing golden orange flowers. This very tall, sturdy-stemmed selection produces loose clusters of trumpet-like blooms in midsummer.
LA Hybrid lilies are the result of crossing the many-colored Asiatic lilies with the larger, trumpet-flowering Easter lily, Lilium longiflorum. They typically bear clusters of wide-flaring and up-facing flowers atop strong stems that are particularly long-lasting as cutflowers. Stems are lined with glossy green, narrow, lance-shaped leaves. Once they have flowered they will not bloom again until the following year, so be sure to plant them with ornamentals that look great later in the season.
Lilies are best growing in full to partial sun and neutral, well-drained, humus-rich soil. They are borne from scaled bulbs that are easily planted; a typical planting depth is five to six inches for LA Hybrids. They look best planted in small groups in perennial borders or cottage gardens and are exceptional cutflowers. Remember to remove the anthers from cut flowers because the shedding pollen will stain fabric.
