LOBULARIA maritima 'Easter Bonnet Lavender'( EASTER BONNET SERIES)
Easter Bonnet Lavender Sweet Alyssum, Sweet Alyssum
The sweet smelling clusters of lavender flowers of 'Easter Bonnet Lavender' are easy and colorful bedding annuals. Members of the Easter Bonnet Series are very compact and bloom earlier from seed than many other forms of sweet alyssum.
Sweet alyssum is a low growing herbaceous ornamental native to the Canary Islands and southern Europe. In the wild, plants behave as both annuals and short-lived perennials, but they are most commonly cultivated as annuals.
The low-growing mounded plants become covered with fine, light green foliage. They bear markedly fragrant showy clusters of tiny flowers that cover plants for much of the growing season.
Sweet alyssum is drought tolerant and adapted to seaside conditions, so it does well in sandy or gravelly soils and full sun. Popular as a bedding and container plant, sweet alyssum may also be used in rock gardens or along walkways where its strong, sweet fragrance may be enjoyed. It makes a superb winter annual for areas with mild climates.
