Botanical Name
Lonicera x brownii 'Dropmore Scarlet'
Plant Common Name
Brown's Honeysuckle, Dropmore Scarlet Trumpet Honeysuckle
General Description
Dropmore Scarlet trumpet honeysuckle is a vigorous semi-evergreen climber that is a hybrid cross between Lonicera sempervirens and Lonicera hirsuta. It is fast growing and boasts beautiful scarlet trumpet-shaped flowers, which bloom all summer, and pretty blue-green foliage. Hummingbirds are particularly attracted to its profuse bright scarlet flowers.
This extremely hardy vine withstands many soil conditions and does best when grown in full sun. A fertile to average garden soil with moisture in the heat of summer ensures robust growth and flowering. Show 'Dropmore Scarlet' off on a strong fence or trellis and lightly prune as needed throughout the growing season for new flushes of stems and flowers.
